Winner of Cardio Fit Bootcamp's Biggest Loser 2010 Contest

Gary Bulger Before Gary Bulger After Gary Bulger started his journey to become Newfoundland's Biggegst Loser on March 1, 2010.  He weighed 213 pounds.  Over the course of 10 weeks, Gary participated in Cardio Fit Bootcamp's Biggest Loser Bootcamp class for 8 weeks and Advenced Bootcamp for 2 weeks.  He followed the advice of his nutrition consultant at Simply for Life, received massage therapy from The Body Kneads Massage Therapy Clinic (St. John's) and Family Wellness massage Therapy Clinic (Mount Pearl) and participated in fitness-related "homework" as instructed by Cardio Fit Bootcamp.

Over the course of Gary's 10-week life changing journey, his body underwent the following changes...

48.5 pounds lost
22.77% body weight lost
21.5 inches lost in the following areas:
  • biceps = -1.5"
  • chest = -5.25"
  • abdomen = -9"
  • hips/glutes = -3.5"
  • thigh = -1.5"
  • calf = -0.75"

Gary may have lost a significant amount of inches and weight but he made significant gains as well.  His strength and endurance increased dramatically and his cardio capacity greatly improved.  During this 10-week period, Gary made the following gains:

  1. Increase in number of pushups completed in one minute from 16 on first day to 45 on last day
  2. Increase in number of crunches completed in one minute from 35 on first day to 61 on last day
  3. Increase in plank hold time from 2:05 on first day to 3:06 on last day
  4. Increase in squat hold time from 1:15 on first day to 3:29 on last day
  5. Decrease in time taken to run 1km from 4:02 at 6-week point to 3:36 on last day*.

*Re: 1km run.  The fastest time we have recorded to date on the 1km run is 3:30
